JESIN SHOP FAQ

JESIN is a premium, eco-friendly pouring medium created by artists for artists. It’s non-toxic, water-based, and made from a two-part system: a fine mineral powder and a liquid binder, mixed at a ratio of 2 parts powder to 1 part liquid (by weight).

🎨 Made for Creative Freedom
Use JESIN to craft functional and decorative pieces like coasters, vases, bowls, trays, planters—even side table tops. Its smooth consistency and workability make it ideal for both beginners and pros.

💫 Signature Marbled Effects
Thanks to its special viscosity, JESIN allows for unique marbled color effects that set it apart from traditional plaster-like products. Every pour becomes a one-of-a-kind creation.

🛡️ Flame Retardant + Indoor/Outdoor Ready
JESIN is flame retardant and formulated for both indoor and outdoor use, making it versatile for a variety of design and decor applications.

✨ Metal-Safe Formula
Want to add shimmer? Unlike other casting materials, JESIN won’t oxidize when paired with metallic pigments or inclusions—your finishes stay crisp and clean.

🌿 Natural & Customizable
With its creamy, neutral base, JESIN looks beautiful on its own or can be tinted using LIQU-MENT pigments to create everything from soft tones to bold statements.

How to Work with JESIN

JESIN has a working time of approximately 20 minutes—plenty of time to mix, color, and pour your design. After that, it begins to cure.

✅ Demold Time:
Your creations can typically be removed from the mold after about 20 minutes. However, curing time may vary depending on how thick or tall your pour is. The taller the pour, the longer the cure.

🌬️ Post-Cure Tip:
We recommend placing your unmolded piece at a slight angle and allowing it to rest for another 24 hours. This helps JESIN “sweat out” any remaining moisture and ensures a smoother finish.

🌿 No Special Studio Needed:
JESIN is a natural, eco-friendly medium—no fancy ventilation or studio setup required. You can pour it just about anywhere, even in your kitchen or craft corner!

🔥 Warm Mold? Totally Normal!
Thanks to the natural exothermic reaction, it’s completely normal for your mold to feel warm about 20 minutes after pouring.

JESIN is super versatile when it comes to color!

🎨 For rich, even color:
Use our LIQU-MENTS—these water-based liquid pigments are made specifically for JESIN and deliver bold, opaque, and consistent results. Just a few drops go a long way!

🌈 For soft tints & shimmer effects:
You can also color JESIN using dry pigments like those found in our CARAT Collection. Keep in mind: JESIN has a natural creamy base, so final shades may appear warmer or slightly different than expected—perfect for organic, custom tones.

✨ Add texture and sparkle:
Unleash your creativity by incorporating materials like:

  • Glitter
  • Gold or Silver Leaf (featured in our AURA BOX)
  • LUXURY CRACKS
  • Colored Sand
These extras don’t just add color—they elevate your piece with texture, shine, and wow-factor.

💡Pro Tip: Start small and build your color—especially with LIQU-MENTS. You can always add more, but you can’t take it out!

JESIN is ASTM D-4236 compliant, meaning it has been reviewed by a certified toxicologist and is labeled for safe use in accordance with U.S. standards for art materials. It is eco-friendly, water-based, and non-toxic, making it a great choice for creative projects across all ages—including teens and supervised children.

🎨 Safe & Beginner-Friendly
JESIN is an ideal alternative to resin for beginners and families. It’s easy to mix, satisfying to pour, and can be painted or sealed after curing—perfect for DIY crafts, educational art, and hands-on activities.

⚠️ Important Safety Information
Although JESIN is non-toxic, it contains a fine mineral-based powder similar to plaster or gypsum. As with any such material:

  • Avoid inhaling dry powder
  • Mix in a well-ventilated area
  • Adult supervision is required when used by children
  • Wear a dust mask if needed, especially when mixing larger quantities

📄 Please refer to the official Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete handling, storage, and safety guidelines. View SDS (link to SDS)

Yes, when it has cured, you can also drill holes in JESIN.

Like any mineral-based casting medium, JESIN can break—especially in the early stages of curing.

🕒 Right After Unmolding:
Within the first few hours, JESIN is still somewhat delicate and can be intentionally broken to create design effects like terrazzo chips or inlays. This is actually a creative feature many artists love using!

🧱 After Full Cure:
Once fully cured (typically after 24 hours), JESIN becomes much stronger and more durable, but it’s still a decorative material, not industrial-grade concrete. Finished pieces can still break if dropped—especially thinner or more delicate shapes.

📏 Durability Depends On:

  • Pouring thickness & mold design
  • How well it’s mixed & cured
  • Whether sealers or reinforcements are used

💡Pro Tip: For added strength and protection, consider sealing your JESIN creation or backing it with a supportive material depending on your project.

JESIN is best sanded using the wet sanding method—this helps reduce dust and gives you a smooth, professional finish.

🧽 How to Wet Sand JESIN:

  1. Wet your sandpaper or lightly mist your JESIN surface with water.
  2. Gently sand the surface in circular motions until smooth.
  3. Rinse and repeat as needed, especially if you’re revealing layers or decorative elements.

✨ Why Wet Sanding?
Wet sanding minimizes airborne dust and helps bring out details like terrazzo chipsLuxury Cracks, and embedded textures. It also gives your piece a refined, satin-smooth finish.

💡 Pro Tip: Start with a medium-grit sandpaper (e.g., 400) and finish with a finer grit (e.g., 800–1200) for an ultra-smooth surface.

Air bubbles are common when working with JESIN, but they can be minimized with a few simple techniques for a cleaner, smoother finish.

🫧 After Pouring – Use Gentle Vibration:
To bring air bubbles to the surface:

  • Lightly tap your mold on the table
  • Use a massage stick, vibration pad, or oscillator to gently vibrate the mold
These methods help deep bubbles rise to the surface before JESIN begins to set.

💨 Bubblebye by MRS COLORBERRY – For Surface Bubbles Only
You can use Bubblebye on the back side of your silicone mold to help release tiny surface bubbles while JESIN cures.

⚠️ Note: Bubblebye only affects surface-level bubbles—it will not eliminate air trapped deeper within the pour.

💡 Pro Tip: Mix your JESIN slowly and thoroughly to reduce the chance of bubbles forming during the blending process.

JESIN doesn’t have a strict maximum pouring height like resin does, which means you have more flexibility in your creative projects.

📏 However, keep in mind:

  • JESIN undergoes an exothermic reaction (it heats up as it cures)
  • The thicker the pour, the longer the curing time
  • Larger pours may also result in more internal moisture and require extra time to fully set and dry

🔥 Thicker pours = more heat + longer cure
While you can pour JESIN in deeper molds, be sure to allow adequate curing time—and consider demolding only once it's fully firm to avoid cracks or warping.

💡 Pro Tip: For extra-thick pieces, you can pour in layers to manage heat and ensure even curing. Just wait until the first layer begins to set before adding the next.

Yes! JESIN and resin can be combined beautifully to create layered, mixed-media effects. With the right timing, the two materials bond well and open up a world of creative possibilities.

🔄 Timing is Key:
To ensure proper adhesion, pour JESIN onto resin only while the resin is still tacky or semi-cured—not fully hardened. If the resin has completely cured, the bond with JESIN may not be as strong.

🕒 Alternative Method:

  • Or pour and fully cure JESIN first, then pour resin over it for a glossy finish, protective coat, or artistic accent

🎨 Creative Tip:
Try embedding JESIN fragments in clear resin for a terrazzo-inspired effect, or coat finished JESIN pieces with resin for a sleek, high-shine look.

JESIN is eco-friendly, non-toxic, and water-based—which means you do not need to wear a respirator or gloves during typical use.

😷 That said, JESIN is a mineral-based powder, similar to plaster or gypsum. As with any fine powder, it's important to follow basic safety practices during mixing:

  • Avoid inhaling dry powder
  • Work in a well-ventilated area
  • Consider wearing a dust mask or NIOSH-approved respirator if mixing large quantities or if you're sensitive to airborne particles

🧤 Gloves are not required, but some users choose to wear them for easier cleanup.

🧪 Working with JESIN and resin in the same project?
Be sure to follow all standard resin safety precautions during the resin portion of your process. This includes wearing gloves, eye protection, and working in a properly ventilated space.

📄 For more detailed safety guidance, please refer to the official JESIN Safety Data Sheet (SDS).

⚠️ Disclaimer:
While JESIN is non-toxic and ASTM D-4236 compliant, it is the responsibility of each user to ensure safe handling based on their individual environment, sensitivities, and project setup.
Always consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for complete safety guidelines and recommendations.

RESIN SHOP FAQ

The GEODE RESIN is a thick liquid resin, which is optimal for OCEAN ART, GEODE ART, ABSTRACT ART or an ultra-high gloss sealing of artwork. The viscosity is more than excellent as effects stay where you poured them ( waves, glitter lines, cells, etc).
The mix ratio is 1:1 by volume, 45 minutes processing time and after 24 hours it is cured. It is basically a rather "soft" resin, which is scratch sensitive and not heat resistant insofar as you want to pour this resin into coaster silicone molds, for example. The GEODE RESIN is insensitive to temperature fluctuations during the drying process. It has passed the TÜV SÜD product test and is now certified according to DIN EN71-3 + A1:2021, i.e. in the cured state, when used correctly and clearly, it is saliva safe - people, children and animals can safely bite or lick the resin.

No VOCs (at normal room temperature).
UV absorber and HALS additives for optimal UV protection
BPA free (when cured)
Nonylphenol free

Always wear nitrile gloves and avoid any direct contact with the skin. So please wear gloves immediately when opening the bottles and when mixing already.

We recommend to make / pour your artwork in very well ventilated premises. Our resin is harmless up to a certain point of heating, as far as emitting harmful vapors is concerned (when just / clear), but it is advisable especially with some color additives, whose content we often do not know, to wear a respirator mask with chemical filter.

If the resin needs to be reworked when cured (i.e. sanding), we recommend safety glasses and dust mask.

DO NOT eat, drink or smoke while working.

Please do not work near children or pets and make sure that they do not come into contact with the materials. Therefore, always store the resin in a safe place.

It is best to store the resin in a dry, cool and dark place (i.e. without direct UV radiation). Bottles that are exposed to high temperatures will yellow more quickly. Always close containers immediately, because the oxidation process also leads to premature yellowing of the resin.

As a rule, the resin has a shelf life of 1 year if stored correctly (more information on this on the SDS). However, already opened bottles should be used up quickly to avoid constant contact with the air (humidity).

The best temperature for optimum processing is 22 degrees Celsius (AROUND 72 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT). At higher temperatures, the resin tends to become more fluid, but the processing time is reduced. At lower temperatures, the resin is more viscous and the processing time is extended.

WE would recommend paying less attention to how long you stir. Much more important here is a close eye, because at first both components look milky when you put them in the measuring cup and start stirring. After some time of steady and calm stirring, it will become clear. There should be no more typical streaks (look like silk threads in the mixture). At most, this is about 3 min for the stirring process, however, you can stir for 3 min in such a way that it is still not properly blended, so please rely more on your eye than your timer.

COLORS

The COLORBERRY LIQU-MENTS are water-based, highly pigmented and liquid colors which are excellently suited for coloring JESIN. Resin can also be dyed with them, but care must be taken with the dosage due to the water base of the colors (water is not compatible with resin). One drop leads to lighter color in the JESIN and to transparent color in the resin. The more drops, the darker the JESIN or more opaque the color in the resin.
The LIQU-MENTS should be shaken before each use and the cap should be closed again to prevent the colors from drying out.
LIQU-MENTS can be combined with each other and also mixed with the rest of the COLORBERRY Collection.
LIQU-MENTS are opaque, non-shimmering colors.
Casting cement, plaster and other pouring media can also be colored with LIQU-MENTS.
The light fastness is excellent.
In addition, our LIQU-MENTS are vegan and safe to use.
If you add just a few drops to the JESIN and mix it just a little, you will get a great marble effect, which can then be poured into the silicone mold like this.

Our dry pigments give the resin AND OTHER MIXED MEDIA a breathtaking shimmer. Especially in the light it sparkles and glimmers in a very elegant way. You can also mix them with opaque colors to then get a unique pearl effect. Our COLORBERRY dry pigments have the maximum pigment strength and are therefore very productive.
All dry pigments can be combined with each other and can also be mixed with the complete COLORBERRY Collection to get great shades or your own color creations.
All our dry pigments are vegan, kosher and halal and are produced without animal testing.
The pigments do not contain any ingredients that are classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction according to the CLP regulation.
You can also mix the colors with glass stones and resin to get a shimmering druzy effect.

Dry pigments can be added to JESIN, but JESIN distorts the color and color intensity a bit, so we recommend you to do small tests before. THESE ARE COSMETIC GRADE PIGMENTS, CAN BE USED WITH DRY OR LIQUID SOAP, BATHBOMBS, ROUGE, NAIL POLISH AND MORE.

You can also paint our dry pigments into a silicone mold or onto hardened resin beforehand and then pour on the resin.

For the best "GOLD" effects, COLORBERRY has two top products: CARAT GOLD and BRONZE BOX. These are the finest pigments that float on top of the surface. Either you stir them into the resin ( please use a little more, otherwise you will have a brownish effect), or you just put the powder dry on the surface. Also, you can brush it dry into a silicone from or mix it with a lacquer-like liquid to paint golden lines with it on the cured resin.
However, if you pour this type of dry powder into silicone molds (mixed with resin), be aware that the gold, for example, will always pop to the surface and you will not be able to turn the coaster/coaster over for a nice, visible gold effect.
If there is enough pigment in the resin, the metallic color will float to the top all by itself or you can heat it a little with a hot air gun to speed up the process.
